The book the Sparrow and the Mustard Seed is a children’s book that tells a story that persons of all ages can relate to: love, joy, comfort, and protection. Parents, guardians, baby sitters, teachers or anyone who may be reading this story with or for child(ren) will be encouraged by it. It celebrates the beauty of family; more importantly, intergenerational relationships. The main character Crystal, with her childlike innocence and curiosity, absolutely cherishes spending time with her grandparents and enjoys conversations with her dad. Even as she misses her grandfather’s physical presence, she finds joy in knowing that he is well taken care of. The story also portrays the father in the role of nurturer, a role too seldom celebrated by or expected of fathers. The dad helps his daughter get through the first major loss of her life in way that is light-hearted, and relevant for children. Finally, in a way that only a little child could, she comforts and challenges her grandmother to have faith. This is a family book for children and parents with illustrations that are joyful but relevant.
