PROMISE ME TOMORROW is the third fictional novel for children in the “Meet In Secret” trilogy. All three follow the fortunes through WW2 of a group of Belgian youngsters and their community. It’s November 1944. Belgium has been liberated. The war looks to be only weeks off finishing. For Luc’s friends and families there are questions they want answers to. Friends were betrayed or killed. Who was responsible? Others are missing, like Carsten, the evacuee from Antwerp, arrested by the enemy. The sketchy reports of them do not tell if they are alive or dead. In the background runs the mystery of collaborators who have touched the lives of some in this rural community, and are an ongoing the same time, an audacious plan is launched which throws Belgium into confusion for a second time in the war; Hitler’s Autumn MistIt will become known as The Battle of the Bulge, and will involve those same families of Hampteau and Hotton, for the conflict arrives at their there is Mot, the 13yr-old Dutch orphan, who, when the war finishes, faces the prospect of having to return to a homeland he barely remembers. The plans for him are not what he Luc, this war has been full of uncertainties. The prospects for tomorrow seem no better, until he takes matters into his own hands.
Author Biography
Robert MacKinlay writes novels for children, based around actual historical events. They are told from the children’s perspective, and bring to life the personal involvement and struggles of individuals and their families. An artist, he has a rural and teaching background, and lives in retirement in New Zealand. His previous works include Face The Shadows, Dare To Defy, and Blame.
