While training on-board warships, a naval midshipman found abundance in less in the proving grounds of rough seas. Although every ship has only one Commanding Officer, he learned that we are all indeed the Captains of our own lives, and our successes follow when we assume command and make decisions.
Fifteen years later, after rising through the ranks to become a Lieutenant Commander, the author willingly retired to explore life on dry land. The struggles of beginning from scratch, with his wife and two little sons on the same lifeboat, tested their character and helped solidify their moral values.
