Bree Bailey’s debut poetry collection, ‘Wailing on Whisper Street’, deftly navigates themes such as sexism, coming-of-age in poverty, working-class struggles, and the enduring impact of grief.
The collection also addresses mental health issues and raises awareness by breaking the silence imposed by societal norms.
The verses are rooted in the determined life of a Latina mother and fearlessly confront pervasive issues of sexism and femininity. They also explore ideas of grief and loss, inspiring courage and resilience in the face of adversity. Additionally, the collection pays homage to the strength of the author’s survival as a young bisexual mom in the modern world.
Author Biography
Bree Bailey (she/her) is a giggly Latine poet who lives in Southern Austin, TX with her tiny delightful family. As a mental health advocate, Bree speaks openly about her experiences with PTSD, depression and anxiety, while also doing her best to bask in the light and grace of the world. Bree’s poems have been featured in Olney Magazine, Serotonin, Wrongdoing Magazine, West Trade Review, Gulf Stream Magazine, among others. Most recently, Bree won the 2023 Write Bloody Jack McCarthy National Book Prize and her debut poetry collection, Wailing on Whisper Street, is forthcoming in Spring 2024. Follow her on Instagram .
